Chance's Take on Books

I'm a novelist who loves to read and discuss all things word-bound.

Currently reading

Swann's Way
Marcel Proust, Lydia Davis
Artful Sentences: Syntax as Style
Virginia Tufte
The Chicago Manual of Style
John Grossman, Margaret D. Mahan
I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive
Steve Earle
Doorway of the Triquetra (Children of Atlantis #1) - Lenore Wolfe Lots of imagination and knowledge of shamanic lore went into this novel, which is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 2. The writing needs to be tightened up, and edited. There are too many repetitive phrases and descriptions. The heroine, Mira, retained her incredulous and weak behavior too far into the story. Despite so much power and the experience of lifetimes behind her, she often came across like a cartoon character. Part of the problem might be the dialogue and overuse of Wha-at, etc. I didn't enjoy reading the prose, but the imaginative elements were fun for awhile.
